A second-generation 30,000 hectare reforestation and regenerative grazing project in Costa Rica.
GANBOS Huetar Norte is the follow-up to rePLANET's flagship Costa Rica project. It carries the same model into 30,000 hectares across Huetar Norte and the north of Huetar Caribe, with 6,000 hectares of native reforestation and 24,000 hectares transitioned to rotational grazing.
The project combines two complementary methodologies — Verra VM0047 for woody biomass and VM0042 for soil organic carbon — to deliver high-integrity removals from the same landscape.
Three farmer pathways: larger ranches transition pasture to rotational grazing and reforest 20% of their land; smaller ranches convert 30–50% of land to mobile-fence rotational grazing plus reforestation; abandoned pasture is enrolled into assisted natural regeneration. Base payments start at $100/ha from year four, with carbon revenue share from year 18.
Industry-leading community benefits totalling close to $180M over the project life. 40% of credits accrue directly to the community via direct payments and a Sustainable Benefit Local Fund (SBLF). The minimum $100/ha base payment ensures early financial returns for participating farmers.
First credit delivery 2031. Investor-priority credit issuance front-loaded into the earliest, largest-issuance years. Combined with GANBOS Guanacaste the projects bring more than 12,000 hectares of native reforestation onstream in Costa Rica.
