About rePLANET

A new kind of nature restoration company.

We exist to deliver high-integrity, science-led nature restoration at scale, combining biodiversity expertise, capital markets and community partnership.

Our mission

Building a global portfolio of investment-grade, nature-based projects.

"Partnering with nature is not a retrograde step. With careful project design, it’s the key to mastering the challenges that lie ahead."

Sir Charles Burrell
Vice-Chair, rePLANET

rePLANET was created to address one of the defining challenges of our time: how to restore nature at the scale and integrity demanded by science, markets and society.

We bring together biodiversity expertise, project development, capital partnerships and community engagement to design large-scale restoration projects that deliver measurable outcomes, for ecosystems, for people, and for food systems.

Our approach is grounded in 30+ years of biodiversity science through our partnership with the Wallacea Trust, combined with operational discipline and commercial rigour.

Why rePLANET exists

The world doesn’t need more carbon projects. It needs better ones.

Early carbon markets over-promised, under-delivered and undermined trust. Today’s investors and corporates are demanding measurable, accountable nature restoration, and the market is rewarding it.

01 · The trust gap

Restoring credibility through measured outcomes.

Project quality is now valued above all else. rePLANET projects are designed for verification, peer review and independent monitoring.

02 · The scale gap

Building investment-grade nature at scale.

Restoring nature globally requires private capital. We create projects that meet the standards of institutional investors and corporate buyers.

03 · The community gap

Restoration that endures through community partnership.

Without local economic integration, restoration doesn’t last. An independently verified 60% of project revenues go to local people.

Global footprint

Operating across 7 countries and four continents.

30+Years of biodiversity expertise
15Carbon-led projects
10Biodiversity-led projects
450kHectares under development
Our scientific foundation

Built on the Wallacea Trust methodology.

rePLANET’s scientific credibility is grounded in our exclusive partnership with Operation Wallacea, one of the world’s most respected biodiversity research organisations.

The Wallacea Trust’s multiple taxa biodiversity quantification methodology provides the rigorous, repeatable measurement that high-integrity nature credits demand. Combined with independent peer review through the Biodiversity Futures Initiative, it is the foundation on which every rePLANET project is built.

Our methodology
  • 30+ years of biodiversity research expertise
  • Multiple taxa methodology, independently peer reviewed
  • Academic credibility through Biodiversity Futures Initiative
  • Recognised by governments, NGOs and major academic institutions

Sir Charles Burrell

Vice-Chair Read bio

Sir Charles Burrell studied for a Higher National Diploma in Agriculture and Advanced Farm Management at Cirencester Royal Agricultural College. He inherited Knepp Castle Estate in West Sussex from his grandparents in 1983. Despite intensifying the Estate’s arable and dairy business for seventeen years, farming on the heavy Sussex clay remained unprofitable. All 3,500 acres of the Knepp Estate are now devoted to a process-led rewilding project involving free-roaming herds of cattle, horses, pigs, and deer as drivers of habitat creation.

Charlie chairs Carpathia in Romania, creating what’s been dubbed the Yellowstone of Europe. He also chairs Nattergal, a company involved with trying to solve the problem of capturing private finance to restore nature to landscape scale projects. He sits on the advisory board of Arcadia and is an oversight committee member, for one of Arcadia’s flagship projects, The Endangered Landscapes and Seascapes Program. He has retired from the board of Rewilding Britain that he chaired for many years and is now on the supervisory board of Rewilding Europe.

Tim then established Operation Wallacea to facilitate academic-led biodiversity research, funded through tuition fees from participating students, in remote locations worldwide, from the deserts of Egypt to cloud forests in Honduras and reefs in Indonesia. ‘Opwall’ continues to operate today and has published more than 700 peer-reviewed journals. He went on to form the Wallacea Trust, working with the World Bank and other funders to deliver year-round conservation interventions at research sites. Through this work, Tim led the development of the world-renowned Wallacea Trust methodology for quantifying biodiversity. He also founded the Biodiversity Futures Initiative to provide independent, academic peer review of biodiversity claims. He founded rePLANET, his most ambitious venture to date, with the support of Operation Wallacea. Tim remains in place as CEO and leader of all project science and design.
